Can low-quality coolant in Pakistan cause Mini Cooper engine overheating?

I recently refilled my Mini Cooper’s coolant at a local service station in Pakistan, and the engine has started to overheat occasionally. Is poor-quality coolant a common cause of overheating in Mini Coopers? How can I ensure I’m using the right type of coolant to protect my engine in Pakistani climate conditions?

Yes. Mini Coopers require specific coolant formulations usually BMW/Mini-approved ethylene glycol-based coolant. Using low-quality o r incorrect coolant available at local stations in Pakistan can lead to:

Reduced boiling point → faster overheating.

Corrosion of radiator and engine components.

Formation of deposits that block coolant passages.

Prevention and Solutions:

Use genuine Mini/BMW-approved coolant check the owner’s manual for type.

Flush and replace old o r contaminated coolant regularly every 2–3 years o r per km interval.

Always mix coolant with distilled water in recommended proportions.

Avoid cheap local coolants that don’t meet manufacturer specifications.
