Could a bad purge‑valve o r EVAP leak cause difficulty starting o r fuel vapour smell in Tiggo 8 Pro?

I’ve experienced difficulty starting the car — sometimes multiple crank attempts are needed — and occasionally there’s a faint smell of petrol vapors around the car, especially after parking o r refuelling. Could a malfunctioning purge control valve or leak in its hoses/EVAP system be responsible? What are the mechanisms that lead from a bad purge valve to hard starts o r fuel smell — and how to check this in a Pakistani environment fuel quality, dust, heat?

Yes, a malfunctioning purge valve can affect starting and cause fuel odors:

Hard starting: If the purge valve is stuck open, fuel vapors continuously enter the intake while the engine is off, creating a temporarily rich mixture that can flood the engine during the first start.

Fuel vapor smell: A leaking EVAP system o r purge valve allows unburned fuel vapors to escape, which can be noticeable around the vehicle after refuelling o r when parked.

Environmental factors in Pakistan: Heat and dust can accelerate valve sticking o r hose cracking, worsening the problem.

Action:

Inspect EVAP hoses for cracks o r loose connections.

Test the purge valve operation it should click o r open/close with vacuum/power.

Replace faulty components to restore proper EVAP function.
