Excessive Engine Oil Consumption o r Blue Smoke on Start in United Bravo
Several Bravo users report that after some thousand kilometres the engine appears to “burn” engine oil oil level s noticeably between services, sometimes accompanied by blueish smoke on cold start o r during acceleration. Considering the Bravo’s 800 cc engine setup and local fuel/maintenance conditions, what are the likely causes e.g., incorrect oil grade, lower-quality lubricant, worn piston rings, valve-seal issues, turbo o r none, PCV system faults and how can an owner diagnose whether it is merely a maintenance issue oil grade/filter change vs a mechanical wear issue rings, seals? What preventive measures and inspection routines should be done to limit oil loss especially under Pakistani driving and climate conditions?

Worn piston rings – cause oil to leak into combustion chamber.
Leaking valve stem seals – oil drips into cylinders when the engine rests, causing blue smoke on startup.
Low-quality o r fake engine oil – burns faster and leaves carbon deposits.
PCV Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve blockage – increases crankcase pressure, forcing oil past seals.
Incorrect oil grade – thin oil e.g. 10W-30 evaporates faster in heat.
How to Diagnose:
Monitor oil level every 500 km. If it s noticeably, there’s consumption.
Observe exhaust smoke:
Blue smoke on start: valve seals issue.
Blue smoke during acceleration: piston rings worn.
Check spark plugs: oily o r carbon-fouled plugs indicate oil burning.
Inspect PCV valve – clean o r replace if clogged.
Recommended Fix:
Use 15W-40 o r 20W-50 engine oil heavier grade resists burning.
Clean o r replace the PCV valve every 10,000 km.
If smoke persists, perform a compression test — if low, engine may need ring o r valve-seal replacement.
Avoid using cheap o r counterfeit oils sold at roadside shops. Stick to known brands with sealed packaging.
Typical Cost Pakistan:
Minor fix PCV, oil + plugs: Rs 5,000–8,000
Engine ring job if needed: Rs 25,000–40,000
