I’ve experienced difficulty starting the car — sometimes multiple crank attempts are needed — and occasionally there’s a faint smell of petrol

I’ve noticed my fuel consumption seems higher than expected, and sometimes the car hesitates o r lacks power during acceleration — especially after long idling o r when the tank is near empty. Could a dirty o r malfunctioning purge control valve or associated EVAP canister/hose be throwing off the air‑fuel mixture o r vapor management, thus affecting fuel economy and throttle response? What should I inspect to confirm this issue rather than blaming it on fuel quality o r driving habits?
