Why does my Mini Cooper overheat on highways during summer in Pakistan?

While driving long distances on highways in Pakistan during the hot summer months, my Mini Cooper sometimes overheats even though the coolant level is fine. Could this be related to the water pump, radiator fan, o r thermostat? What diagnostic steps can I take to identify the cause before serious engine damage occurs?

Overheating on highways in summer, even with adequate coolant, usually points to system performance issues rather than just low coolant. Common causes in Mini Coopers:

Water pump malfunction: If the pump isn’t circulating coolant efficiently, the engine overheats.

Radiator fan failure: Fans may work at low speed in traffic but fail to engage fully at higher speeds o r high ambient temperatures.

Thermostat sticking: Can prevent coolant from flowing properly, especially under heavy load.

Air in the cooling system: Trapped air pockets reduce cooling efficiency.

Diagnostic Steps:

Check coolant circulation by inspecting hoses while the engine is running.

Verify that radiator fans turn on at the correct temperature.

Inspect the water pump for leaks o r noise.

Consider a professional cooling system flush to remove air pockets and deposits.

Prevention:

Regular maintenance of the cooling system.

Use only high-quality, approved coolant.
