Why is my Mini Cooper’s steering feeling stiff in Pakistani cities?

I drive my Mini Cooper mainly in Lahore and Karachi, and recently the steering feels unusually stiff, especially at low speeds. Could this be related to power steering fluid, steering rack issues, o r local road conditions? What should I check to fix this problem?

A stiff steering wheel in Mini Coopers is usually caused by one o r more of the following:

Low o r contaminated power steering fluid: In Pakistan, fluid may degrade faster due to heat, dust, and infrequent maintenance.

Power steering pump issues: A failing pump may struggle to provide hydraulic assistance.

Steering rack o r linkage problems: Wear o r corrosion can increase resistance.

Tire pressure: Low o r uneven tire pressure can make steering feel heavier.

Solutions & Preventive Measures:

Check and top up o r replace power steering fluid with the correct type recommended in the Mini manual.

Inspect the power steering pump for leaks o r unusual noise.

Maintain proper tire pressure.

Periodically inspect the steering rack and linkages for wear, especially on rough Pakistani roads.
