Nissan Patrol Overview

The Nissan Patrol, also known as Safari in some markets, was first introduced in 1951. Globally, it has undergone five major transformations and is currently in its sixth generation (Y62), which is nearing its end. Unfortunately, the model was never officially launched in Pakistan by Ghandhara Nissan, so all current and previous models are privately imported. Despite this, the Patrol enjoys a strong following among SUV enthusiasts in Pakistan and internationally. In the Middle East, the Patrol is considered an icon in the modified SUV segment. Its popularity was further boosted when a heavily modified version was featured in The Grand Tour, where it raced against Richard Hammond.

Engine Options
The current-generation Y62 Patrol is available in multiple engine configurations, depending on the region. The most powerful option is a 5.6L V8 engine producing 400 hp, while a more economical 4.0L V6 engine delivering 275 hp is also offered. These powerful engine choices cater to a wide range of performance needs, from city cruising to serious off-roading.

Nissan Patrol Exterior
The Patrol boasts a bold and refined exterior, highlighted by a redesigned V-motion chrome grille and sleek boomerang-style LED headlights. Its rear lights follow the same elegant boomerang design, smoothly integrated into the vehicle’s curvature. A standout feature is the introduction of sequential turn signals — a first for Nissan. The overall design represents a major upgrade over previous generations, combining luxury with rugged appeal.

Nissan Patrol Interior
Inside, the Patrol offers a premium 8-seater layout with diamond-stitched quilted leather seats for enhanced comfort. Both front seats are equipped with heating and ventilation functions. The modern dashboard features a dual-screen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other high-end features include blind-spot monitoring, lane assist, and a built-in cool box in the center console. The 7-inch digital instrument cluster helps drivers stay informed with real-time navigation and driving data.

Gearbox & Transmission
The Nissan Patrol is offered with multiple transmission options, tailored to various regional markets and engine pairings. These include a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed automatic, and a 5-speed automatic transmission. These options ensure flexibility for both off-road enthusiasts and city drivers alike.

Fuel Efficiency
While the Patrol delivers impressive power and performance, it’s not known for fuel economy. The 5.6L V8 variant offers an average mileage of around 7 km/l, making it a fuel-hungry SUV, especially in city traffic or during off-road adventures.

Competition
In the global SUV market, the Nissan Patrol competes directly with the Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 570. In some regions, it also faces competition from full-size American SUVs like the Ford Expedition and the Chevrolet Suburban. The Patrol holds its ground with robust build quality, luxurious features, and strong off-road capabilities.
