Motorbike Patrol Service Now Available on Motorways
A Motorbike Patrol Service on motorways has been introduced as a pilot project to improve security and surveillance, under the guidance of Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan. The minister emphasized that around 30 to 35 motorbikes should be assigned to patrol various sectors of the motorways simultaneously. In the initial phase, the Government Motorbike Patrol Service will be operated using the existing resources of the motorway police, with future plans for expanding the service as needed.
Abdul Aleem Khan stressed the importance of collaboration among multiple agencies to ensure the success of the project. The National Highway Authority (NHA), Motorway Police, Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and district police are all expected to work together to provide effective security. Additionally, the minister urged these organizations to devise strategies to prevent thefts of the protective fencing along motorways, a concern that has been affecting the security of the network.
In an effort to strengthen the Motorway Police’s role, the minister proposed amendments to the existing laws, granting more authority to the officers. He emphasized that the Motorbike Patrol Service for Motorways should not only focus on patrolling, but also take on a more proactive role in safeguarding travelers and ensuring the highest levels of security. Identifying areas that are prone to crime, particularly where fencing theft occurs, was highlighted as a key part of improving safety on the motorways.
To tackle the issue of stolen or damaged fencing, the minister directed that prompt action be taken to replace it. He specifically instructed the IG Motorway Police to coordinate with local law enforcement agencies to follow up on cases of fence theft and hold those responsible accountable. This move aims to ensure that critical infrastructure is maintained to prevent criminal activities that compromise the security of motorists.
As part of the ongoing efforts to improve motorway security, the Federal Minister tasked the Secretary of Communications with submitting a detailed report on the New Motorbike Patrol Service on Motorways within a week. This report will outline the coordinated actions taken by all involved parties, reinforcing the importance of continued vigilance and collaboration to safeguard the safety of travelers on Pakistan’s motorways.
