2026 Kia Sportage: Updated Style, New Engine Expected

Since its 2023 debut, the Kia Sportage has been a standout choice in the compact SUV category, quickly climbing to #2 in our buyer’s guide. This success is due to its strong fuel economy, spacious interior, competitive pricing, and appealing design. While we initially expected a refresh in another year, Kia surprised us with the early reveal of the 2026 Sportage in Korea, suggesting an update may come sooner than anticipated.

Currently, the 2026 Kia Sportage is only listed on Kia’s Korean website, with no availability in other regions yet. Based on previous release patterns, it may take at least six months before it reaches the U.S. However, the Korean model gives us insight into design and feature updates that will likely appear in the North American version when it’s eventually released.

One of the biggest changes to the 2026 Sportage is its exterior styling. Kia has reworked the front and rear to align with the brand’s latest design language, as seen on the larger Kia EV9. Key updates include new vertical headlights and redesigned taillights with a geometric shape, creating a modern, eye-catching look that enhances the Sportage's bold appeal.

Inside, the 2026 Sportage features a revamped dashboard with a double display screen, a feature similar to what’s seen in Hyundai models like the Tucson and Ioniq series. This new setup not only adds a more high-tech feel but also improves driver convenience with enhanced functionality, aligning with the trend toward digital interfaces in modern vehicles.

In terms of performance, the Korean model retains the 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid engine but replaces the previous 2.5-liter non-hybrid option with a 2.0-liter engine. It’s unclear whether the North American version will retain the 2.5-liter or adopt the 2.0-liter from the 2025 Kia K4. As more details emerge, we expect Kia to clarify the available engine options closer to the U.S. release date.
