E-Challan, Heavy Fines and License Suspension Introduced

In a major step toward enhancing Punjab road safety, the provincial government has launched a complete restructuring of the decades-old traffic system. This initiative brings a comprehensive set of 20 new amendments under the updated Punjab Traffic Act, marking the most extensive reform in more than sixty years. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all cities to activate the revised rules within 30 days, signaling the start of a new era in traffic enforcement Punjab.

Jail, FIRs, and Prohibitions to Improve Road Behavior

These updated traffic rules aim to discourage unlawful and careless driving habits. The government has also banned motorcycle-rickshaws (Qingqi) on major Lahore roads and prohibited unsafe acts like rooftop travel on buses, further strengthening Punjab road safety initiatives.

Better Traffic Flow and Anti-Congestion Strategies

To reduce urban congestion, authorities have orders to eliminate one-way violations within 30 days. U-turns across major roads will be redesigned for smoother movement, while strict regulations will control parking on flyovers, bridges, and major city highways. Locations such as wedding halls will be required to provide mandatory parking spaces. These measures aim to improve citywide mobility while supporting long-term traffic enforcement Punjab strategies.

Implementation Timeline and Public Awareness Campaigns Ahead

Maryam Nawaz has instructed law-enforcement authorities to show visible progress within one month. Traffic police departments are already preparing for large-scale enforcement under the revised Punjab Traffic Act. Public awareness drives will also be launched to educate citizens about heavy traffic fines, license rules, penalties, and the legal consequences of violations. Experts predict these reforms will push updates in transport regulations, insurance policies, and vehicle registration requirements.
