Huawei Unveils Official Images of China's Largest EV Sedan
Huawei has unveiled the Maextro S800, a massive electric sedan that claims the title of the largest EV sedan in China. At a staggering 5,480 mm in length, it stands out as one of the most massive mass-produced sedans in the world.
About Maextro and its Collaboration
The Maextro brand comes from a joint venture between Huawei and JAC Motors, with the S800 being the very first car produced under this partnership. Aimed at competing with high-end vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz Maybach and Nio ET9 in the Chinese market, this vehicle is set to disrupt the premium sedan segment. For context, the Nio ET9 is 5,325 mm long, while the Maybach S-Class reaches 5,469 mm.

Pre-Order Process and Pricing Insights
Maextro S800 began accepting blind pre-orders back in November of the previous year, with no official price tag at that point. However, a 20,000 yuan deposit allowed customers to secure their reservation. Industry experts estimate that the S800 will likely be priced between 1 million yuan (approximately 136k USD) and 1.5 million yuan (around 205k USD).
Manufacturing and Factory Overview
The Maextro production facility, situated in Hefei—the headquarters of JAC Motors—was completed on December 16. Notably, JAC Motors had previously collaborated with Nio, manufacturing Nio vehicles in the same plant until Nio assumed control of the manufacturing facility.

Powertrain and Vehicle Specifications
The S800 will be offered in two different variants: BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) and EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle). The EREV version operates as a hybrid, where the internal combustion engine (ICE) serves as a range extender, not directly powering the wheels. The two versions are as follows:
- BEV Version: The BEV S800 uses three e-motors:
- A 160 kW motor in the front.
- 237.5 kW motors on each rear axle.
- Total peak output: 635 kW (roughly 852 hp).
- EREV Version: The EREV S800 uses a 1.5 T engine as a range extender, delivering a peak output of 115 kW. The EREV version will be available in two trims:
- Dual-Motor Trim: 160 kW front motor and 230 kW rear motor.
- Tri-Motor Trim: This configuration mirrors the BEV with three electric motors but adds the ICE engine, resulting in a total power of 750 kW (about 1,006 hp).
Battery Information and Range
Both versions of the Maextro S800 use CATL's ternary NMC battery. While the BEV version's capacity is yet to be disclosed, the EREV version is equipped with a 63.262 kWh battery pack, offering an all-electric driving range of between 272 km and 371 km under CLTC conditions.
Variant | Battery Capacity | Power Output | Range (CLTC) |
BEV | TBD | 635 kW | TBD |
EREV | 63.262 kWh | 750 kW | 272 – 371 km |
Vehicle Dimensions and Weight
- Length: 5,480 mm
- Width: 2,000 mm
- Height: 1,536 mm
- Wheelbase: 3,370 mm
The BEV version weighs 2,731 kg, while the EREV tri-motor version comes in at 2,859 kg.
Innovative Features: Autonomous Parking and Charging
In a significant step towards autonomous driving, Huawei released a video showcasing the Maextro S800 autonomously locating an EV charger and parking next to it. Once parked, a robotic arm connected and disconnected the charger automatically, showcasing cutting-edge technology.
Maextro's Role in Huawei's Strategic Expansion
The Maextro S800 is the fourth brand under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance), following the success of other joint ventures like Stelato (with BAIC), Aito (in partnership with Series), and Luxeed (with Chery).

Maextro S800 Launch Anticipation
