Lexus Introduces Affordable 300e to Expand RZ Range

Lexus has broadened its electric vehicle portfolio with the unveiling of the new RZ 300e, marking an entry-level addition designed to appeal to a broader audience thanks to its more budget-friendly pricing and front-wheel-drive configuration.

Under the hood, the RZ 300e is equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor, delivering a robust 201 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque. Borrowing the motor from the FWD Toyota bZ4x, the RZ 300e shares similarities with its counterparts. It draws power from the same 71.4 kWh battery pack found in the RZ 450e, providing an impressive WLTC range of 599 km. It's worth noting that the range may vary when opting for the available 20-inch wheels, as the test results are based on the 18-inch wheels.

The driving concept known as "The Natural," initially developed for the RZ 450e, has been seamlessly integrated into the RZ 300e. Prioritizing a responsive and intuitive driving experience, this concept aligns with Lexus's focus on energy efficiency, ensuring an expanded cruising range to meet diverse customer demands.

Setting the RZ 300e apart from its siblings is the newly tuned suspension. Lexus engineers have optimized rear springs, stabilizers, and shock absorbers to strike a balance between comfort and agility. With a 100 kg weight difference compared to the RZ 450e, these enhancements contribute to the RZ 300e's distinctive driving dynamics.

Debuting in Japan with a starting price of ¥8,200,000 (just under €52,200), the RZ 300e offers approximately 7% savings compared to the RZ 450e. This strategic pricing move aims to make EV ownership more accessible, fostering a broader consumer base and potentially boosting sales.

Recognizing challenges associated with EVs in cold temperatures, Lexus addresses this concern with a new battery rapid heating system for both the RZ 300e and RZ 450e. This system accelerates recharging during cold weather, ensuring reliability even in chilly conditions.

As part of its global expansion strategy, Lexus plans to introduce the RZ lineup, including the RZ 300e, in nine new countries and regions, with a particular focus on Central and South America. This aligns with Lexus's commitment to becoming a brand centered on Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

The RZ 300e represents a significant milestone in Lexus's electrification journey, aligning with the broader vision of "Lexus Electrified." This ambitious plan aims to create a carbon-neutral society by popularizing electric vehicles and meeting diverse customer needs. While challenges lie ahead, Lexus's commitment to leading in electrification within the luxury market remains evident.
