Massive Crackdown in Punjab Against Smoke-Emitting Vehicles

The Punjab Police has launched a strong Punjab pollution control initiative to combat rising air pollution and smog across the province. This major vehicle emission crackdown aims to reduce smoke and ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations.

As part of this anti-smoke campaign Punjab, authorities have registered 824 cases and arrested 775 individuals involved in environmental law violations. The campaign, initiated under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for a cleaner and “Smog-Free Punjab,” reflects the government’s commitment to improving air quality.

In Lahore, police officials reported the arrest of 41 suspects and the registration of 34 cases during ongoing anti-smog operations. The Punjab traffic police action also resulted in over 290,000 challans being issued to violators, showing the seriousness of the drive against smoke emitting vehicles

The Punjab pollution control teams have extended the vehicle emission crackdown to all types of transport, including cars, buses, and motorcycles. Authorities revealed that many of these smoke emitting vehicles were operating without proper maintenance, releasing thick fumes that worsen air pollution across urban areas. The Punjab traffic police action now focuses on roadside checks to ensure that every vehicle—whether private or commercial—complies with emission standards. This move supports the ongoing Punjab environmental drive, aiming to make public transportation cleaner and more eco-friendly.

Furthermore, 24,000 vehicles were seized in the Punjab car seizure campaign, while 283 fitness certificates were suspended for failing to meet emission standards. These measures highlight the province’s firm resolve to address air pollution vehicles that contribute heavily to smog formation.

The Inspector General of Punjab Police has instructed officers to intensify inspections across highways, industrial areas, and other key locations. He emphasized strict action against anyone violating smog-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This Punjab environmental drive continues to strengthen enforcement, encouraging cleaner transportation and a healthier atmosphere for citizens.
