Punjab Launches Green Number Plates for Electric Vehicles

Punjab Launches Green Number Plates for Electric Vehicles
In a major step toward sustainable mobility, the Punjab government has launched a new EV number plate policy that mandates green-colored license plates for all electric vehicles. This move is part of the latest Punjab EV policy, aiming to promote eco-conscious transport solutions across the province.
These specially designed Punjab number plates for EVs will now be mandatory, replacing traditional plates for every electric vehicle owner. This update in electric vehicle number plates will help authorities and the public easily identify eco-friendly vehicles on the roads.
According to Additional Director General Ahmad Saeed, this initiative supports ongoing electric vehicle rules and is a visual effort to differentiate electric models from fuel-based automobiles. So far, more than 16,000 EVs have been registered under the vehicle registration Punjab system. The breakdown includes 14,500 electric bikes, 1,461 electric cars, 36 electric rickshaws, and 31 electric buses.
Ahmad Saeed further stated that under the current EV policy Punjab, owners of electric vehicles continue to receive financial incentives. A remarkable 95% reduction in registration and token tax is being offered as part of the EV registration update, which is expected to remain in effect through the upcoming fiscal year.
This new initiative falls in line with the government's broader commitment to promoting clean energy and sustainable transportation options, as highlighted in recent Punjab transport news.
