Punjab to Introduce Personalized Number Plates Next Week

Recent developments reveal that the Punjab government is set to launch an innovative number plate customization program as early as next week. This initiative will enable vehicle owners to create bespoke number plates featuring personalized names and numbers.

Customization Options

The upcoming program will provide three tiers of customization:
Platinum Tier: This top-tier option permits up to eight characters, allowing for names or significant words. For instance, one might select "SARAH" for their plate. The starting price for the Platinum tier is Rs. 5 million.

Corporate Tier: Tailored for enterprises, this tier allows businesses to showcase their names on their used vehicles. Examples could include brands like COCA-COLA, PEPSI, and NESTLE. The Corporate tier comes with a registration fee of Rs. 10 million, plus an extra cost for each unique registration mark.

Gold Tier: For those interested in a combination of letters and numbers, the Gold tier provides a mix of three letters and three digits. The cost for the Gold tier is set at Rs. 0.5 million.



These customized plates will have permanent ownership. The Excise Department has introduced stringent security measures to combat counterfeiting and will maintain a detailed registry of all vanity plate owners.

Addressing the Controversy

The program has attracted controversy due to rumors suggesting that Mufti Qavi, a controversial figure, would be the ambassador for the scheme. However, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has refuted these claims, stating that no official appointment has been made. She emphasized that any unauthorized activities within the Excise Department would be met with strict disciplinary measures.
