Punjab Hikes Vehicle File, Number Plate, and Smart Card Fees

The Punjab government has decided to implement revised delivery charges for vehicle registration documents, including files, smart cards, and number plates, in line with increasing inflation across the province. The adjustment in Punjab Vehicle File Delivery Fee, Smart Card Delivery Charges, and Punjab Number Plate Delivery Fee comes after months of negotiations with the Pakistan Post Office under a three-year contract.

Officials confirmed that the Post Office had initially sought a steep hike of over 400% in service charges, which would have raised costs above those of private courier companies. This proposal was rejected by the Director General of Excise and Taxation, leading to a more balanced revision in the latest Punjab Excise Delivery Charges Update.

According to the new structure, the Vehicle File Delivery Cost Punjab will now be Rs. 100, compared to the previous Rs. 43. Similarly, the Punjab Number Plate New Rates set delivery charges at Rs. 90, up from Rs. 34. For smart cards, the revised price is Rs. 48, an increase from Rs. 27. These adjustments are part of the broader changes included in the Punjab Vehicle Registration Charges 2025 framework.

The hike represents an Increased Smart Card Fee Punjab and higher costs for related registration services. Authorities believe that despite the rise, the charges remain affordable when compared with the original proposal from the Post Office. The summary of the new rates has already been forwarded to the provincial government for final approval, ensuring a smooth transition for motorists.
