2025 Kia K4 Sedan: Affordable Model Coming Up

The 2025 Kia K4 marks a significant evolution in Kia's lineup, replacing the Forte and becoming the brand's entry-level model following the discontinuation of the Rio in 2023. This sleek sedan, with a fresh name and updated design, is set to become Kia's most affordable vehicle. Production will begin in Mexico, with the K4 available for sale in the third quarter of the year. Although a hatchback version was showcased at the 2024 New York Auto Show, it is expected to be added to the lineup in the 2026 model year, with the sedan taking precedence due to its global popularity.

Size and Design Highlights
The Kia K4 stands out in its segment, being larger than the outgoing Forte and boasting dimensions comparable to some midsize sedans. Built on the K3 platform, it features a multilink suspension in higher trims and offers ample headroom and legroom. The design is modern and bold, with vertical headlights at the corners and a fastback roofline. The K4 will be available in five trims: LX, LXS, GT-Line, GT-Line Turbo, and the new EX. Interior options include a unique slate green for the EX, as well as two-tone black and white, medium gray, and a red/black combo.

  

Engine Options
Under the hood, the K4 retains the Forte's powertrains. The base model features a 2.0-liter Atkinson four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT, delivering 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is expected to be similar to the Forte, which achieved 30 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. For those seeking more power, a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine is available, producing 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Notably, the manual transmission option has been discontinued.

Interior and Technology
The K4's interior boasts significant tech upgrades, including a 12.3-inch driver display and a matching 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The latter reflects the growing trend towards larger screens in entry-level vehicles. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the K4 debuts Kia's first AI voice assistant, capable of understanding natural language and providing detailed responses, enhancing user interaction. The car also features rotatable cupholders, four USB outlets, and an optional wireless charger.


Pricing and Future Plans
Pricing details for the 2025 Kia K4 will be announced closer to its release date, with expectations that it will start slightly higher than the Forte's $21,145 base price. The K4 continues Kia's tradition of offering substantial features and value at a competitive price. While a hybrid version is not planned, an all-electric EV3 compact crossover is expected in the future, potentially signaling a shift towards more electrified options in Kia's lineup.
