Hyundai Ioniq 6 Gets Major Upgrade - Detail Inside
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is receiving substantial updates to compete more strongly against electric rivals like the Tesla Model 3. With a bigger battery, refined styling, and access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in the U.S., this new Hyundai electric car is set to make a bold comeback.
A Challenger Since Launch
Originally revealed at the 2022 Busan Motor Show, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 made a strong impression with its aerodynamic design and fast-charging capability. Promising over 563 km of range, it was seen as a serious contender in the EV market.
Sales Performance Lags Behind
Despite its features, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 review shows it didn’t perform well in U.S. sales. In 2024, only 12,264 units were sold compared to Tesla’s 189,903 Model 3s. Early 2025 saw a 9% decline year-over-year, with just 3,318 units sold in Q1.
Boosted Battery and Longer Range
The updated Ioniq 6 specs now include an 84 kWh battery, up from 77.4 kWh. This enhancement gives the sedan the longest certified range in Korea—Ioniq 6 certified range now stands at 568 km. The Ioniq 6 EV range is expected to exceed previous EPA estimates of 581 km in the U.S., surpassing even Tesla’s latest Model 3 Long Range at 549 km.
Better Charging Access
Hyundai is adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS), letting the Ioniq 6 connect directly to Tesla's Superchargers. While current models need adapters, future versions will come with built-in NACS ports. The 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is expected to fully integrate this upgrade.Subtle Design Refresh
Hyundai has also introduced slight design improvements. The company describes the new Ioniq 6 features as “simpler and more progressive.” Additionally, a sportier N Line version is in the works, with the high-performance Ioniq 6 N expected to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
With extended Ioniq 6 EV range, improved charging convenience, and updated looks, the refreshed model is shaping up as a stronger player in the EV market. While the Hyundai Ioniq 6 price for the updated version isn’t confirmed yet, all signs point to a more compelling alternative to Tesla’s dominance.
