New Hybrid Double-Decker Bus Service in Lahore
In a significant initiative to boost tourism in Lahore, a city renowned for its historical landmarks, the Punjab government is set to introduce five new hybrid double-decker buses on designated routes. This development aims to provide an environmentally friendly transportation option for tourists eager to explore the city’s rich cultural heritage. By promoting these modern buses, the government hopes to attract more visitors to Lahore's iconic attractions.
New Routes for Tourist Buses
The newly launched tourist bus service will feature three buses operating along a route that extends from Qaddafi Stadium to several key sightseeing spots. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has highlighted that these state-of-the-art buses will enhance metropolitan tourism throughout Punjab, making it easier for visitors to access the vibrant experiences that Lahore has to offer. The initiative is expected to provide a seamless travel experience for tourists.
History of the Double-Decker Service
The concept of double-decker buses in Lahore dates back to November 2015, during the tenure of former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Since then, the service has catered to a diverse range of passengers, including academics, diplomats, corporate representatives, and the general public. These buses have become a popular choice for those wishing to explore Lahore's unique tourist attractions, offering a convenient and enjoyable mode of transport.
Expansion Plans for Multan and Faisalabad
In a move to further enhance tourism, the double-decker bus service will also be expanded to Multan and Faisalabad. This extension aims to promote cultural and historical tourism in these cities as well. During the recent launch event, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took the opportunity to inspect the hybrid double-decker bus and experience a ride, while officials briefed her on the details of this innovative service.
Proposed High-Speed Rail Line
Alongside the bus initiative, the provincial government is considering a high-speed rail line connecting Lahore and Rawalpindi. This ambitious project aims to facilitate travel between the two cities at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour, reducing travel time to under two hours. Currently under review, this proposal could represent a significant leap forward for Pakistan’s transportation infrastructure. However, the government faces challenges in securing the necessary funding, as the project remains in the proposal stage for now.
