Pink Bus Service for Girls and Women Starts in Islamabad

In a significant development for women’s public transport, the Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani, announced that 99% of previously idle buses have now been restored and dedicated to the new pink bus service. These pink buses for girls and women, serving nearly 8,000 female students from rural areas, offering them a safe, reliable, and cost-free commute to urban schools.

During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee, Wani noted that the pink bus service in Islamabad addresses key safety and accessibility issues, ensuring free transportation for female students and teachers. This effort aligns with the government’s No Fare No Barrier program, aimed at enhancing educational access for women in underserved areas.

Wani also mentioned plans to secure additional funds to improve school facilities in rural regions, working to reduce the urban-rural education divide by providing modern resources and services.

Key Routes for Pink Buses in Islamabad
The pink bus service operates on specific routes tailored to maximize reach and convenience for students and teachers. Twenty buses are in operation, covering these major routes:

Route 1-A: Nilore to F-11/1 FGCH&E&MS
Route 1-B: Nilore (Ziarat Stop) to Secretariat
Route 2-A: Bhara Kahu to F-11/1 FGCH&E&MS via F-6
Route 2-B: Bhara Kahu to F-11/1 FGCH&E&MS via G-6
Route 3-A: Humak to Secretariat
Route 3-B: Humak to F-11/1 FGCH&E&MS
Route 4-A: I-14 (IJP Road) to Secretariat
Route 4-B: I-14 (IJP Road) to F-11/1 FGCH&E&MS
Route 5-A: B-17 to Secretariat via Margalla Avenue
Route 5-B: B-17 to Secretariat via GT Road, G-14

These pink buses for women run twice daily, with morning services from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and afternoon services from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. By offering safe public transport for women on these designated routes, the government supports female education by bridging the gap between rural and urban areas, making it easier for students and teachers to reach schools and workplaces without delays.
