Suzuki Alto Mild Hybrid: First Look at 37km/L Fuel Economy

The Japanese Suzuki Alto consistently outshines its locally assembled counterpart in the Pakistani market, primarily due to superior build quality, fuel economy, and advanced safety features. Despite its higher price point compared to the locally made model, it hasn’t dominated sales. In this article, we explore the specifications and features of the 9th-generation Japanese mild hybrid Suzuki Alto to help you make an informed decision.

The 9th-generation Japanese Alto, launched in 2021 and hitting Pakistani roads in 2024, showcases a modern design language. Its exterior features include fine character lines, adjustable halogen lamps, a sleek grille, and blacked-out retractable mirrors. The rear design has been updated with vertically oriented taillamps, inspired by the 5th generation Alto, replacing the previous horizontal lights. Adding to its aesthetic appeal are the 13-inch stainless steel rims, which provide a bulkier look.

Under the hood, the Suzuki Alto boasts a 660 CC engine enhanced with hybrid technology. This in-line 3-cylinder engine, coupled with a CVT transmission, delivers 48 HP and 58 Nm of torque. The mild-hybrid technology significantly improves fuel economy by reducing engine strain and charging the 3Ah battery while idling. The manufacturer claims an impressive fuel average of 37 km/l, a crucial advantage given the current high fuel prices in the country.

The interior of the new-generation Alto is designed with improved headspace and a more spacious cabin compared to its predecessor. The focus of this latest trim is on safety features rather than luxury. Basic amenities include manual AC controls, an anti-collision system effective for pedestrians and cyclists, parking sensors, a basic cluster panel, front cameras, and an auto headlight. While there are four cup holders, a notable omission is the vanity mirror on the sun visors. The boot space is modest, suitable for small grocery runs or a compact suitcase.

Priced at 3,750,000 PKR, the 9th-gen Japanese Suzuki Alto is a more affordable option compared to the Suzuki Cultus. For those looking to replace a less fuel-efficient vehicle, this model offers an excellent blend of economy, safety, and modern features, making it a worthy contender in ifts price range.
