New 7th Gen Hybrid Elantra Spotted in Pakistan

In recent years, the local automotive industry has faced significant setbacks due to the global pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn. These challenges have resulted in a steep decline in sales and numerous production cuts, forcing local car manufacturers to delay the release of new models. However, as economic conditions gradually stabilize, automotive companies are once again starting to introduce new vehicles to the market.

Sightings of the New Hyundai Elantra in Baluchistan

Recently, the 7th generation Hyundai Elantra has been spotted in Baluchistan, suggesting that the company might be preparing to launch this model soon. Internationally, Hyundai has released both hybrid and gasoline versions of the Elantra. It is expected that the hybrid variant will be introduced locally.

Below are some photos of the New Hyundai Elantra:

Background on the Hyundai Elantra in the Local Market

In March 2021, the 6th generation Hyundai Elantra was introduced to the local market. At that time, the 7th generation was already available internationally. A similar situation occurred with the Honda City, where the 6th generation model was launched locally, while the 7th generation was already on the roads in neighboring countries.

Reasons Behind the Delay in Introducing the Latest Elantra Model

There was considerable dissatisfaction among consumers regarding the delayed launch of the 7th generation Elantra. Understandably, customers prefer the latest models over older ones. Several factors contribute to these delays.

When Hyundai-Nishat began working on the local version, Hyundai's global operations were almost ready with the 7th generation. Initially, this generation was manufactured at only three Hyundai-owned plants serving both domestic and international markets. These high-capacity factories are located in the United States, Korea, and China, each producing hundreds of thousands to over a million units annually.

In contrast, Pakistan’s automotive sector relies on CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly lines. Without the necessary CKD kits, local production of new models is not possible. Additionally, the parent company's ownership in local joint ventures is limited, restricting access to research and development and technology transfer.

The Complexities of Introducing New Car Models

Local manufacturers are dependent on parts and kits supplied by the main company, which must be available before new models can be produced locally. Automakers typically do not provide CKD kits immediately after a model's global release. Even in the U.S., one of the Elantra’s largest markets, production of the 7th generation only began a few months ago.
Understanding these operational and logistical challenges sheds light on why the local market often experiences delays in receiving the latest car models. With the improving economic landscape, there is hope that these challenges will be addressed, enabling faster access to new models for local consumers.
