New Toyota Celica, MR2, and Supra Coming Soon

Toyota is hinting at the potential revival of its legendary sports cars, including the Celica and MR2, alongside new iterations of the Supra and GR86. This exciting news emerged from Toyota’s anime-style show, "Grip," where model names like "Supra Mk6," "Celica Mk8," and "MR2 Mk4" were showcased on a whiteboard. Such a revelation has sparked interest among car enthusiasts who fondly remember these iconic models.

Part of the GR Family
If the Celica and MR2 make a comeback, they are expected to join Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) lineup, which currently features models like the Supra, GR86, and GR Yaris. With a focus on performance, the GR family aims to enhance driving experiences, and the inclusion of these classic models would align perfectly with this vision. The return of these vehicles would cater to fans eager for high-performance options from Toyota.

Electric Future for MR2
Toyota has also teased an all-electric sports car concept, the FT-Se, which features a low and compact design. This concept could potentially form the basis for a new MR2, utilizing Toyota’s slim battery units to achieve a look reminiscent of the original model. The move towards electric performance vehicles indicates Toyota's commitment to innovation while honoring its heritage in sports cars.

Celica's Legacy
The Celica has a rich history, produced from 1971 to 2006, and its revival has garnered interest from Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda. However, its future alongside the GR86 remains uncertain. Enthusiasts are hopeful for its return, as it would further enrich the GR lineup and appeal to a wider audience of sports car lovers.

Future Developments
A new version of the Supra is anticipated, following the debut of the current model in 2019. Additionally, a redesign for the GR86, launched in 2022, may introduce hybrid technology and a turbocharged engine akin to the GR Yaris. With the introduction of the GR GT3 supercar, which was first tested in 2022, this expansion of Toyota's performance lineup could realize Akio Toyoda's vision of reuniting the "three brothers"—the Celica, MR2, and Supra—under the GR banner.
