50% Motorway Toll Hike for Non-M-Tag Vehicles - NHA Updates

In a significant toll tax 2025 development, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has rolled out a fresh toll structure across Pakistan's national motorways. The new policy introduces a 50% surcharge, also known as the Non-M-Tag surcharge, for vehicles without a valid M-Tag or those carrying insufficient balance. This NHA toll hike will officially take effect on June 15, 2025, and applies to both personal and commercial traffic.

Extra Charges for Non-M-Tag Vehicles

The updated M-Tag policy change is part of a nationwide effort to promote electronic toll collection and minimize traffic delays. Under Section 10(2)(vii) of the NHA Act (1991), vehicles entering the motorway network without an active M-Tag will now be subject to a Motorway toll increase of 50% above the standard rate. The Motorway charges rise has brought changes to the toll structure across various key routes. Below are the revised NHA toll rates for cars, inclusive of the Non-M-Tag surcharge:

M-2 (Lahore – Islamabad): Rs. 1,800
M-3 (Lahore – Abdul Hakeem): Rs. 1,200
M-4 (Pindi Bhattian – Multan): Rs. 1,600
M-5 (Multan – Sukkur): Rs. 1,800
M-14 (D.I. Khan – Hakla): Rs. 1,000
E-35 (Hasan Abdal – Mansehra): Rs. 450

These highway toll prices are part of the broader Pakistan toll update designed to streamline payment methods and deter delays caused by manual cash handling.

Higher Rates for Commercial Vehicles

Commercial traffic will face even steeper toll increases if M-Tag compliance is not ensured. On the M-2 (Lahore – Islamabad) route:

2 & 3 axle trucks: Rs. 7,900
Articulated trucks: Rs. 10,200

These rates include the 50% Non-M-Tag surcharge, signaling a firm commitment from NHA to enforce digital compliance across all vehicle types.

Enforcement Strategy and Public Notice

According to recent toll hike news, NHA has directed all toll plaza systems and staff to update their infrastructure for smooth implementation of the revised policy starting mid-June. Vehicle owners are urged to activate their M-Tags and maintain sufficient balance to avoid penalties.
