Toyota and Suzuki New Electric SUV Project

Toyota has officially announced the launch of a new electric vehicle (EV) created in collaboration with Suzuki, signaling a major advancement in their partnership. This EV, an electric SUV, is set to start production in India by next spring and will be the first Suzuki-designed model to be marketed globally by Toyota, expanding both companies’ reach in the EV market.

Past Collaborations Between Toyota and Suzuki
Toyota and Suzuki have collaborated before, with some Toyota models, such as the Corolla Touring Sports and RAV4, rebranded and sold under the Suzuki name in Europe. Similarly, certain Suzuki models have been rebadged and sold as Toyotas in other global markets. However, this upcoming electric SUV marks a new level in their alliance, focusing on the growing EV segment.

Inspired by the Suzuki eVX Design
The new Toyota electric SUV is expected to share design elements with the Suzuki eVX, an electric concept showcased at the Auto Expo in Delhi. Both the Toyota model and the Suzuki eVX have similar design features, including the SUV’s overall proportions and the shape of its C-pillars, indicating a cohesive aesthetic across the models.

Joint Platform and Performance Features
This electric SUV will be built on a platform jointly developed by Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu, a company known for manufacturing microcars. Designed with four-wheel drive, the SUV will be well-suited for rugged terrains, blending durability with efficient performance to cater to diverse driving needs.

Leadership’s Perspective on the Collaboration
Toyota’s president, Koji Sato, shared enthusiasm for the enhanced collaboration, emphasizing the importance of this step in their joint electrification efforts. Suzuki’s president, Toshihiro Suzuki, echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude for the growing partnership as Suzuki readies to introduce its first global battery electric vehicle (BEV) with Toyota’s support.
