Another Flyover In Lahore Set to Open on December 7, 2023

In an effort to enhance intra-city commuting comfort, the provincial interim government is swiftly moving forward with infrastructure projects. Following the opening of the Cavalry underpass and Shahdara flyover to public traffic, Punjab's caretaker government is now gearing up to inaugurate another flyover in the city. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) recently announced the completion of the Akbar Chowk flyover, spanning 1.1 km with two segments, and is scheduled to open for traffic later this week.

The successful construction of the Akbar Chowk flyover is a significant achievement for Lahore's infrastructure development. Punjab's Minister for Housing, in conjunction with DG LDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa, conducted an inspection of the newly finished flyover, emphasizing the project's commitment to environmental preservation by avoiding the felling of a single tree during construction.

Previously, the LDA had highlighted the impressive completion of the Cavalry underpass in just 2.5 months, instead of the initially estimated 6 months. Caretaker CM Punjab Mohsin Naqvi officially opened the underpass for traffic, underscoring its role in providing a seamless, signal-free corridor from Center Point to Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

In addition to the Akbar Chowk flyover, ongoing work on the Ghora Chowk Flyover and Walton Road is in progress. According to the government's projections, the Ghora Chowk Flyover is expected to open to the public by December 7, 2023, while the Walton Road project is set to be ready by January 31, 2024. The CBD Main Boulevard is slated for unveiling on December 31, 2023.

These infrastructure projects, initiated in September 2023, aim to alleviate traffic congestion, particularly in areas like Cavalry Ground Chowk, which faced significant jams during rush hours. The timely completion of these projects is crucial for ensuring smoother traffic flow and addressing the long lines of vehicles that used to form at congested signals in these areas.
