Honda Prelude Returns After 20 Years with Hybrid Power

The Honda Prelude is making a grand return after a 20-year hiatus, marking the first new Prelude since the end of its fifth generation in 2001. This revived coupe aims to bridge the gap between Honda’s Accord sedan and Civic coupe, offering a modern twist on a beloved classic.

Why It’s Significant
Honda has been reviving several iconic models lately, such as the Passport SUV and Acura’s Integra. Now, it's the Prelude’s turn, set to return as a sporty hybrid coupe, reflecting Honda's shift toward electrification. This move positions the Prelude as a fresh alternative in a market where nostalgia meets innovation.

Design and Platform
The new Prelude, while a modern take, carries subtle nods to its predecessors. Its sleek design resembles the Civic Coupe, with retro touches like a nose-ring front reminiscent of the fourth-generation Prelude and full-width taillights referencing earlier models. The coupe will be slightly smaller than the Civic, aligning more closely with competitors like the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86.

Powertrain and Features
Under the hood, the Prelude is expected to feature the Civic and Accord hybrid’s 2.0-liter engine paired with dual electric motors, delivering a combined 204 horsepower. This setup promises an EV-like driving experience, with the gasoline engine playing a supporting role.

Expected Launch and Pricing
Anticipated to arrive in 2025 or 2026, the Prelude's price is estimated at $35,000, making it a competitive yet premium offering in Honda’s lineup.
