Islamabad Traffic Guidelines for the Upcoming SCO Summit

As Islamabad gears up for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a robust traffic management strategy. This initiative is designed to ensure a seamless flow of vehicles while reducing disruptions during the event. From October 14 to 16, heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering the city to maintain safety and order.

Road Closures and Alternative Routes
Several key roads will be closed during the summit, including the routes from Millat Road to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri Serena Hotel, as well as from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur. Furthermore, access to Serena from Aabpara and the Srinagar Highway will also be restricted.

To facilitate motorists, alternative routes have been designated. Those traveling from Murree and Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi are advised to take Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Park Road. For those heading from Faizabad towards Bhara Kahu and Murree, Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road are recommended.

Motorists on the Srinagar Highway traveling to Murree and Bhara Kahu should use Chand Tara Chowk, Pak China Centre, Sports Complex, Murree Road, Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road as alternative options.

Heavy traffic coming from Peshawar to Lahore can access the Fateh Jang motorway via the Taxila motorway and Tarnol Railway crossing. Vehicles traveling from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi can utilize Chak Beli Road to reach the Chakri motorway.

For traffic originating from sectors F-5, G-5, G-6, and Margalla Road heading towards Rawalpindi, the diversion will be via 9th Avenue. Similarly, those traveling from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point are also encouraged to take 9th Avenue.

Motorists heading from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi should consider using Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road. For those traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad, the route via 9th Avenue through Saddar and Murree Road will be available. Please note that the expressway route between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk will be closed, with the service road acting as a viable alternative.

Traffic Personnel and Updates
To effectively manage traffic during the summit, more than 585 officers from the ITP will be stationed across Islamabad to assist citizens and regulate vehicle flow. Real-time traffic updates will be provided through FM Radio 92.4 and various social media platforms.

The Islamabad Traffic Police encourages the public to cooperate with law enforcement and utilize the designated alternative routes to ensure a successful and organized SCO Summit.
