Kia Sportage vs. BYD Atto 3: Feature Comparison

China's leading EV manufacturer, BYD, has launched its latest model, the Atto 3, in Pakistan. This new all-electric crossover was unveiled at the PAPS event at the Expo Center in Lahore, priced at approximately PKR 8.99 million. With its unique positioning, the Atto 3 provides direct competition to popular models like the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Haval Jolion HEV in Pakistan’s EV market.

Competitor Comparison: Atto 3 vs. Kia Sportage
The BYD Atto 3 is designed as a practical and modern EV crossover for city and short-route drives. While the Atto 3 is an electric vehicle, Kia’s Sportage Limited Edition is powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine. Although Sportage is well-known for its brand value and strong resale, it’s still a fourth-generation model from 2017. Despite its age, the Sportage’s comprehensive feature set and design appeal remain strong, though it lacks some of the advanced tech found in the Atto 3.

Interior Features
The Atto 3 boasts a luxurious interior with soft-touch leather and aluminum accents, creating an upscale feel. Its ergonomic seats, enhanced cabin insulation, and advanced technology, including a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen, make for a comfortable in-city driving experience. On the other hand, the Kia Sportage features a practical PU leather interior, an 8-inch touchscreen, and standard amenities like dual-zone climate control, but lacks the Atto 3's multi-color ambient lighting and advanced infotainment capabilities.

Performance & Power Specifications
The Atto 3’s single front motor generates 201 HP and 310 Nm torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds. In comparison, the Sportage’s 2.0L engine produces 157 HP and 196 Nm torque. Although Sportage has an AWD option, the Atto 3 delivers a fuel economy equivalent to 27 km/l and can cover a range of 330 km on a full charge. It also offers DC fast charging that replenishes the battery in about 37 minutes, adding to its practicality as a city car.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features
Safety is a major focus for both models. The Atto 3 comes with 6 airbags and driver assistance features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). In contrast, the Kia Sportage provides only 2 airbags and basic driver-assist functions such as Lane Departure Warning. The Atto 3 also includes advanced tech like Traffic Sign Recognition and a 360° camera, giving it an edge in terms of safety.

Conclusion: A Fresh EV Choice for Pakistan
BYD’s Atto 3 represents an impressive EV option for urban drivers looking for advanced technology, a stylish interior, and cost-efficient electric driving. With features designed to meet modern city needs, it stands as a formidable competitor to conventional options like the Kia Sportage, while also offering a glimpse into the future of automotive tech in Pakistan.
