Suzuki Launches e Vitara, First Electric SUV for 2025

Suzuki introduced its all-electric e Vitara at an event in Milan, marking the brand’s entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market. Developed in collaboration with Toyota and Daihatsu, the e Vitara is set for launch by summer 2025 across Japan, Europe, and India. Pricing details remain undisclosed, but this model signifies Suzuki’s strategic move towards electrification, aiming to capture attention in the competitive EV market.

Larger and More Spacious
The Suzuki e Vitara is bigger than its hybrid counterpart, featuring a wheelbase of 2,700mm and a length of 4,275mm. This size increase provides more interior space but also makes the vehicle heavier. Despite the added weight, the EV boasts impressive acceleration and a travel range of up to 400 km per charge, depending on the battery size, offering potential owners both performance and spaciousness.

Bold and Refined Design
The design of the e Vitara is influenced by Suzuki's eVX concept, with prominent wheel arches, a sloping roofline, and stylish 18- to 19-inch alloy wheels. Its rugged look is balanced by a sleek, urban-friendly appearance. Inside, the SUV includes a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, and practical touches like climate control, a floating center console, and multiple charging ports to enhance usability and comfort.

Advanced Platform and Power Options
Built on Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform, co-developed with Toyota and Daihatsu, the e Vitara offers two battery options: a 49kWh battery for entry-level models and a 61kWh battery for higher trims. The base model has front-wheel drive with 142 horsepower and a range of about 200 miles. The advanced variant features dual motors with four-wheel drive, delivering 181 horsepower and an AllGrip-e system, making it suitable for rougher terrains.

Practicality and Production Details
The e Vitara supports 150kW fast charging, allowing it to reach 70% battery in roughly 30 minutes. While rear-seat space and a 306-liter boot may limit comfort on longer trips, especially for taller passengers, this EV remains a strong competitor in its class. Production is set to start in India in spring 2025, and Toyota will launch a version of this model as part of its bZ lineup, with an expected starting price near £30,000.
