Sindh Premium Number Plates 2nd Phase Announced

The Sindh government will initiate the second phase of issuing premium number plates in Karachi on October 12th to support flood relief efforts. The first phase, held in July, generated Rs. 670 million, which is being used to fund the world’s largest housing project for flood victims. Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Excise, shared this news in a press conference.

Online Portal for Premium Plates
A significant new feature in this phase is the introduction of an online portal for purchasing premium number plates. For the first time in Pakistan, citizens can now buy their desired plates conveniently from home. This development aims to make the process easier and more accessible for the public.


First Premium Plate Auction
Back in June, the Sindh government hosted its first-ever premium number plate auction at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Karachi. This event allowed motorists to personalize their vehicles with unique, prestigious plates. The auction offered three categories: platinum, gold, and silver, catering to different preferences and budgets. The platinum category started bidding at Rs. 2 million, offering coveted three-character plates.

Ban on Choice Number Plates
In July, the provincial government decided to stop people from picking their own regular car plate numbers, known as choice plates. Vehicle owners are no longer allowed to choose specific combinations of letters or numbers. Now, plate numbers are assigned based on the order of applications, similar to a queue system for both private and government vehicles.

Premium Plates Exception
An exception exists for premium plates, which feature unique numbers or letters that buyers are willing to pay more for. However, obtaining these special plates requires waiting for a separate government-announced process. The general public cannot request premium plates directly without going through the official procedure.
