Green Tractor Scheme Announced to Boost Wheat Farming

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched a new initiative to support wheat farmers by providing free tractors and land levellers. This program, part of a larger package worth billions, aims to boost agricultural productivity in the region and improve the lives of local farmers.

Eligibility and Distribution of Equipment

The scheme targets farmers with 12.5 to 25 hectares of wheat land, who will receive 1,000 land levellers. Those with over 25 acres of land will be eligible for 1,000 green tractors. To ensure fairness in distribution, the equipment will be given out through a lottery system, ensuring that all farmers have an equal chance.

Support and Pledges from the Chief Minister

In her address, Maryam Nawaz assured farmers that they would not be left behind. She referred to them as “our brothers” and emphasized the government's commitment to supporting them fully. She also highlighted that improving the agricultural sector and the welfare of farmers was a top priority for her government.

Kisan Card and Other Assistance

Under the Kisan Card program, farmers will receive interest-free quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to aid wheat production. This initiative, launched on October 28 in Hafizabad, aims to help farmers directly, bypassing middlemen to ensure they receive full benefits for their hard work.

Additional Schemes and Support

In addition to the equipment and Kisan Card initiatives, the government has introduced a "Green Tractor Scheme," which has already received 1.5 million applications. The scheme offers subsidies of up to Rs. 1 million on tractors. Moreover, Rs. 10-15 billion has been allocated for machinery hubs in each tehsil, and plans to convert 7,000 tube wells to solar power are underway to reduce farmers' energy costs.
